10/19/2004 Archived Entry: "Michael Moore canceled"

As usual, Justin Raimondo's daily editorial on the war today is excellent: "Suicide Mission. The meaning of the soldiers' rebellion in Iraq ." My God, that man is good on Iraq, and he has been tireless in keeping both real news and libertarian commentary on the war flowing. Nat Henthoff's "Should we outsource torture?" provides good commentary on H.R. 10, the House bill now in the Senate upon which Gordon P. has been updating us.

The Guardian (UK) has stirred up a hornet's nest with its Operation Clark County...

which was designed to help its British readers "have a say in the American election by writing to undecided voters in the crucial state of Ohio. In the first three days, more than 11,000 people requested addresses. Here is some of the reaction to the project that we received from the US." The overall tone of the American feedback can be gauged by the article's title, "Dear Limey assholes." As sample letter? "Real Americans aren't interested in your pansy-ass, tea-sipping opinions. If you want to save the world, begin with your own worthless corner of it." I think the best response, however, comes from the Wonkette who cmments not only on the Guardian's campaign but also on the American backlash. Wonkette writes, "Yeah! Imagine that! A foreign power trying to, you know, assert control over a sovereign nation by writing letters. Why don't they just hand-pick a ruling coalition like a real empire would? Pussies."

Michael Moore is back in the news...okay, okay, he never left. Another UK paper comments, "The OSCAR-winning director is considering legal action after pay-per-view channel In Demand dropped his programme, the MICHAEL MOORE PRE- ELECTION SPECIAL, which was due to broadcast on 1 November (04) - 24 hours before Americans go to the polls to vote for their next president (02NOV04)." Pressure from Republicans is cited as the cause...at least by Moore who is considering legal action against the cable company. Those who think Moore might be a tad paranoid about Republicans have to remember that, as Moore explains in a letter currently being widely circulated, "You may have heard by now that the Michigan Republican Party has called for my arrest. That's right. They literally want me brought up on charges -- and hope that I'm locked up. No, I'm not kidding. The Republican Party, yesterday, filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutors in each of the counties where I spoke last week in Michigan."

Meanwhile, the conservative Sinclair Broadcast Group is still planning to air the rabidly anti-Kerry documentary 'Stolen Honor: Wounds that Never Heal' just prior to the election.
