10/17/2004 Archived Entry: "President Bush Thanks"

The Monster Limo Weblog advises us of a "Terrifying Video Of Bush Via DailyKos. The clip is a 'thank you' message taped by Bush for the members of the Iraqi Survey Group. It hasn't been altered in any way. The fact he can barely finish his sentences should be a genuine cause for concern. This was no impromptu appearance, like his disastrous press conferences and debate appearances. This was a planned, scripted, recorded address.I'm starting to think rumors of Bush's ill health may have basis in reality. Watch the clip and decide for yourself. It clearly made a stir amongst the members of the ISG." [Warning, long download]

Meanwhile, Bush can't seem to get it straight whether a military draft is on the way or not. Within two consecutive sentences at a campaign rally yesterday, he both rejected and embraced a draft. Of course, he corrected himself on the statement "we will not have an all-volunteer army"...but was it just another of the howling gaffes for which Bush is notorious or was it a telling slip of the tongue. Who knows? The best single source for information of whether to expect a draft is -- surprise! not a campaigning politician -- but Rock the Vote, which not only provides information but also dispells some of the false rumors based on fear. Clearly Rock the Vote thinks a draft is a real possibility -- especially under a 2nd term with Bush -- and clearly the site is having an impact on younger voters who would bear the brunt of a draft. Thus, RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie sent a letter to Rock the Vote yesterday telling them they "have an obligation to immediately cease and desist from promoting or conducting your 'Draft' campaign." Personally, I believe a military draft will follow Bush's re-election. I suspect a national service draft might occur in Kerry's Presidency, which would free up the military, reservists etc. to be shipped out.
