On the Political Front:
Bush's upcoming State of the Union speech is expected to emphasize Iraq's malfeasance (without producing evidence, of course) and the US economy. Added to the mix will be a new "vision" of Medicare.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are demanding proof re: Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. A bit late to be effective, eh what? Bush is countering their gambit by announcing that he will release *some*evidence ...when he gets around to it. The announcement of the pending release is nicely timed to defuse criticism prior to Bush's speech without his actually having to produce any evidence. Anyone want to take bets on whether the phrase Axis of Evil will crop up?
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Likud Party is expected to move from its current 19 seats to 32 or 33 places in the Knesset (Israeli parliament)in today's election. According to the latest surveys, Sharon will be able to form a government with right-wing, religious and ultra-nationalist parties to control about 65 seats in the 120-member Knesset. The hawks will be in power again.
Bush and his lickspittle-poodle Blair will ride the Blix report like cowboys into war. On Friday, the two men will meet and decide how much longer to give the UN inspection process.
On the Personal and Movement Front:
Congratulations to Kevin Oreilly, a former and fellow Free-Market.Net "alumni", who has just accepted a new job. Kevin writes, "Pays better, has benefits and I get to work from home. I'm the newest addition to the staff of Insurance Journal, a trade magazine for property/casualty agents and brokers."
I am still busy salvaging what I can from the old ifeminists.com site, which will be "going down" on February 14th, Valentine's Day. A lot of love went into that site and I will try to put as much enthusiasm into the new to-be-reconstructed one.
Richard Ebeling has a nice piece) entitled "The Dangers and Costs of Pax Americana" in the Dec. 2002 Freedom Daily. And my weekly FOX column -- published each Tuesday -- is currently up.
Cheers,
